The proponents of strengthening friendship with America ignore the fact that U.S. is not showing the attitude of a friend to India. Had America been sincere in friendship it would have not spread espionage network in India, argues the writer.
The arrest of Pak spies in India is a usual case. Scores of Indian officers and citizens have been arrested for their alleged role in spying for Pakistan. The arrest of Indian officer Madhuri Gupta is still fresh in the news. She is accused of supplying secret and important Indian documents to Pakistan.
Pakistan is number one enemy to us it seems. Therefore any act suggesting espionage does not come as a surprise and is sometimes quite convenient for the government too. But what does the government do when it’s new found best friend resorts to similar antics.
American secret service agencies are working full time in India. They use their resources moneypower, manpower and womenpower to overcome the needs of our officials and gain access to required information. What has compelled “the best friend” to behave like worst of enemies, luring our officials for treachery and espionage?

The network of foreign spies tracked in India, shows that there is no difference between our worst enemy Pakistan and the best friend America as regards spying. If officers are caught involved in spying for Pakistan there is hue and cry. But when officers are found spying for United States there is no mention of it. Rather efforts are made to conceal such incidents.
The sincerity of the United States in regard to relations with India can be judged by some of the recent decisions taken by the American government.
Recently, America announced that H-1B visas will cost more. This is seen as an attempt to reduce the non-American professionals in the U.S. and also tax those already there. Now, India’s IT professionals—India is a hub of IT experts—who work in IT related jobs in America will have to spend more.
In another step, the Ohio state government in the U.S. has decided not to allot government contracts to foreign companies. The American president Mr. Barack Obama stated that the companies outsourcing work to foreign countries will not be given the benefits in tax.
While trying the best to close its doors to Indian companies, the United States is putting pressure on India to open doors of the defence manufacturing sector to foreign investment. This market is estimated to be around $100 billion. The U.S. is interested in setting up these plants in India. This seems to be the prime factor that is bringing the U.S. government close to India. What the Indian IT industry did to the U.S. the American defence industry wants to do in India. It is the responsibility of our Indian government to keep India’s interest paramount when dealing with the U.S. The relationship between both the countries has to be mutually beneficial. The two governments have to work to bring a balance between both the countries.
The Common man asks why America behaves this way. Why does want to know our secrets? Why is America, doing ghuspaith in our intelligence and security set up? This question must be raised during high-level meetings of both the countries. This is the matter of our freedom and sovereignty.
America undoubtedly has penetrated into our sensitive intelligence institutions. This is not surprising any more. The fact that American spies have done ghuspaith in our intelligence set-up reveals how America establishes an information network in all developing countries which it can use later. By strengthening its network in India today it can serve the interests of the American government in the coming years.

A report reads that the CIA, the American intelligence agency, had penetrated into foreign affairs unit of the Indian intelligence agency RAW way back in 1980. The officer in-charge of Chennai branch of RAW was arrested for spying for America in 1980.
In order to trap the Indian officers and the officer bearers of sensitive Indian institutions, America uses wealth, youth and also sex. Many incidents proved this true in the past. The local chief of Chennai RAW was persuaded to spy for America through wealth and sex. The said RAW officer would inform CIA about the details of secret operations RAW officers in Sri Lanka would carry out. He used to hand over the copies of the plans and operations the Indian intelligence were to execute in Sri Lanka.
One more example came to the fore in this regard in Delhi intelligence bureau. The enquiry of a senior IPS officer brought surprising results. This IPS officer was one of the expected candidates for the post of Delhi intelligence chief. It was sure that he would be appointed on the post. But the enquiry revealed that the nominee for such a sensitive post shared a relationship with a female officer working in a CIA office in Delhi.
A report reads that the CIA, the American intelligence agency, had penetrated into foreign affairs unit of the Indian intelligence agency RAW way back in 1980. The officer in-charge of Chennai branch of RAW was arrested for spying for America in 1980.
A report even reads that by 1990 CIA had penetrated to every level of India intelligence agency and the intelligence bureau. Surprisingly this is a work that has been in process for about three decades. During Cold War, America was not a friend of India. Hence it can be understood that American must have tried to know the secrets of India. But today America is a close friend of India. Therefore, it is important to know why it is spying against India. This is very important and needs serious thinking.
Here we mention an incident as an example. Ravendra Singh, a high rank officer of RAW in Delhi, had been spying for America. He was under scanner of our intelligence agencies. No sooner did Singh come to know that CBI wanted to arrest him that he went underground. It was later known that he reached America via Nepal on a fake passport. Now he stays in America. CBI wants to arrest him but CIA does not allow it.
The Indian government has been striking big deals with the United States. America is even helping India arrest the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. But a high rank intelligence officer of India, Ravendra Singh has been hiding in America illegally since 2008. Why don’t they hand him over first.
To arrest Ravendra Singh, all the airports in India were alerted. Then how did he manage to escape into Nepal? How could he get a fake American passport in Nepal? How did he reach America on this fake passport? Why is an Indian intelligence officer staying in America? Why is he not sent back to India?
The only result that can be deduced from all these questions is that America is a friend who takes a lot of precaution. As long as there is a need to be friendly as was the case in Iraq, it is a friend. But if the going gets rough it is also keeps itself prepared for the worst case scenario. But this friend cannot be trusted. This friendship is not trustworthy. It is so that on one side hands of friendship are extended and on the other side a strong espionage network in being spread in our country. Government officers are persuaded for treachery and the treacherous like Ravendra Singh are supported. If Singh is extradiated to India it seems that many more secrets of CIA will be unveiled. The activities the CIA is engaging in our country will be exposed. This is the reason behind the denial of Ravendra Singh’s deportation. Why has a treacherous officer become more important to America than the Indian government? These questions will never be asked.

It appears that Ravendra Singh is a senior agent of CIA in the Indian intelligence and he knows many more officers who are at work in Indian intelligence and sensitive institutions. It means that there are many more Ravendra Singhs in India who are providing America with significant secrets of our country. Despite all these things, can you term America as the best friend of India?
The American president Mr. B. Hussain Obama is expected to visit India in November. It is seen as an opportunity to strengthen the bilateral relationship between India and America. Some agreements are expected to take place. According to a report, between India and U.S. the biggest-ever defence contract for 10 C-17 Globemaster-III giant strategic airlift aircraft, which will come for upwards of $ 3 billion is on course to finalization.
While doing any deal with America, the Indian government must consider its interests. It is often seen that in the name of defence deals American has been selling its outdated and old stocks of arms.
It is alleged that American intelligence agency CIA is busy in facilitating terror attacks in various countries to ensure that large scale arms supply by America and Israel continues. The civilian website Wikileaks has revealed that it was CIA that was behind the unprecedented 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. Our government did not think in its wildest dream that its best friend America might be harming it. After the Kargil war initiated by pro-America Pakistani President Parvez Musharraf, India had to import millions of dollars worth of arms from arms supplying countries. All this fact raises question whether we can blindly trust the friendship of America?
And that too despite the news below?
“It has been revealed that during late P.M. Narasimha Rao’s time secret information of his office would reach America.”
“Jaswant Singh, while revealing this, did not name the officer who supplied secret information to America. However, he said that the officer was not in post now nor was he present in India (Has he gone to America?)”
“According to news, last year it was revealed that information was stolen from Navy’s War Room. Many navy officers were accused in this case. But delay in action against them let them flee the country. (Which are the countries that gave them shelter, is still unknown.)”
“ A Times of India report, dated 22, July 2006 read that Delhi police arrested an officer of RAW’s computer department, retired brigadier Ujjwal Das. He would spy for America and supply secret information to it.”
“Earlier, the police arrested S.S. Paul, the system analyst at National Security Council, for spying for America. Moreover, a high-level RAW office Mukesh Saini was arrested for spying for America.”
According to a report, between India and U.S. the biggest-ever defence contract for 10 C-17 Globemaster-III giant strategic airlift aircraft, which will come for upwards of $ 3 billion is on course to finalization.
The above mentioned news are merely a tip of the iceberg. What a large scale espionage network is being run by U.S. intelligence agencies in India can supply material for a book. Despite this big spy network America remains to be a great sympathiser and close friend of India. If it is so, the reality of friendship should be understood in the backdrop of American espionage activities against India and the arrests of American spies. Therefore, it is must to go in depth of this friendship and study it. Until then it can sign huge arms deals worth billions of dollars to revive the American economy with American companies after certification from our intelligence agencies and armed forces.
